The Central Board od Directors in APJATI expressed its objection to the plan to increase deposits in the revision of Law 18 which is currently being discussed in the house of Representative. This policy is considered to have a broad negative impact on the placement of Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI).
If this policy is implemented, there will be a domino effect, including:
1. There is no proven correlation between increasing deposits and decreasing number of PMI cases;
2. The placement of PMI has been hampered, considering that more than 90% of placements are carried out by P3MI;
3. The increasingly difficult situation for P3MI, which already faces various regulatory and global labor market challenges;
4. The failure to achieve the government's target to place 425,000 migrant workers has the potential to harm the national economy and hinder the Asta Cita mission of the Prabowo-Gibran government.
APJATI asked the government and the House of Representatives to review this policy, so that the regulations made continue to support the sustainability of the PMI placement industry and the welfare of Indonesian Migrant Workers.
